mother-of-swords:

Me: “Please put effort into research, and I’ll help you out once you’ve tried and need some extra guidance or clarification!”

Witchblr: “gAsp! You uppity witch” (to quote the tag)

Anyways here’s the original post [X], here’s the more eloquently worded version [X] and I stand by what I was saying. Learning requires research, and it’s not my job to do ALL of it for you, but I love helping out! Especially since witchcraft is a very fluid and individual thing, what I think are the best resources may not be the best ones for you so it’s important to explore!

And those of you who actually follow me know that I frequently tag resources for people to use in their research and create posts if enough people have the same questions 🙂 And I love getting asks, don’t let this deter you!

Anyone who has had any success with their magical practice has achieved it because they put in work for it.

This isn’t an unrealistic thing to expect of anyone! If you want to see results in anything, there is a certain amount of leg work you absolutely have to do on your own. This means reading and experimenting and generally just DOING the things.

That’s not to say conversation isn’t an important part of that process. Discussion with your peers can offer a lot of potential in terms of growth! It’s absolutely necessary and worthwhile to seek that out sometimes.

There are a lot of things that get “asked” that aren’t attempts at those kinds of conversations, though. When bloggers point out that they aren’t Google, it’s because what’s happening is a demand and not two people having a dialogue.

Some bloggers opt to teach these “querents” practical research skills as a default and honestly, those folks are gems. Instead of berating someone who’s being pretty darn lazy, they’re giving them an effective lesson on how to seek out those topics on their own.

Most people don’t want to re-write 101 content, and frankly, they shouldn’t be expected to. It costs literally zero dollars to acknowledge that you’re asking someone’s time and expertise when you ask for advice and generally have good etiquette about it. You can contribute to a satisfying conversation even if you are just learning. It’s genuinely not hard.

So yeah. I want to see you work for it. I want to engage with people who are actively putting effort into their practice – even if they are just starting out! If that makes me an uppity witch, so be it I guess.

This was very well-worded, thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I definitely default to providing research techniques, I think a lot of people just don’t have the tools to be self-sufficient in researching and that’s not their fault! There’s so many amazing things out there and you can only discover them by doing your own work!
