Today I learned

Free Audiobooks and Ebooks on OVERDRIVE.

Free Graphic Novels (DC, Marvel, Image, etc), Music, TV shows, and music on HOOPLA.

Free music that you can KEEP on FREEGAL

You are PAYING for all this with your tax money – USE THEM. Most likely systems will have all 3 or 2 out of 3, so if you aren’t sure call your local library’s reference/information desk and how you can get set-up or started.

So for grad school on Monday, I have to teach four Latin words to the rest of the class (all language teachers, none of whom know Latin, all of whom know my antics) without explaining what they mean in English.

I’m thinking of coming in in full Athena/Minerva costume, labeling my spear, shield, helmet, and aegis, and just yelling at them in Latin like I am a vengeful goddess carrying their doom at the end of my craft foam spear.

Thoughts?

So the costume was 100% the right call.

I wore my peplos over my regular clothing, hiked up so it was hidden under my jacket. The rest of my costume was tucked into a duffle bag, and my classmates had spent all class trying to figure out what was inside, while I just smiled and gave no hints.

I was the last to present.

“So you all know me well enough by now,” I said, “to know that I’m a ‘go big or go home’ kind of person.” And I casually took off my jacket and unrolled my peplos, put on the aegis, helmet, and shield, and held aloft my spear, shouting, “SALVETE, MORTALES!”

One of my classmates whispered, “That is such a power move,” while my professor absolutely lost it laughing in the back of the class.

I kept the helmet on after presentations were over, and my professor used my spear as a pointer for the rest of his lecture. I have no idea how my grade is going to turn out, but it was a good time.

Pro Witch Tip

Me, a genius: creates erasable surfaces in my grimoire

OK LOL but no joke this is aN AWESOME way to cut down on pages you use in your grimoire if you’re using a bound journal and want it to last a LONG time

So if you can afford it, get you some self-laminating sheets and wet-erase markers (wet erase because when you close the journal, dry-erase may rub off due to friction between the pages!) and make some reusable pages in your grimoire! They’re great for pages that you want to use often but don’t want to dedicate so many pages to such repeated things.

Real Quick How-to:

  1. Decorate the page how you want it
  2. Measure the self-laminating sheet against the paper
  3. Measure again
  4. Cut out the sheet
  5. SLOWLY apply sheet to your page using the following method: peel a little bit of the backing off, smooth onto your page, peel more, smooth, repeat until the page is laminated.

Some ideas for these reusable pages:

  • Magical Habit Tracking
  • Magical “Last Time I Cleansed…”
  • Daily Tarot Card/Rune/etc.
  • Full/New Moon intention setting
  • And obv. endless more!

Keep the Wildlife Healthy and Well Spell

Needed:

  • acorns (20 or more)
  • Small twigs
  • Leaves
  • Sea salt
  • Three green candles
  • Pouch to hold everything

Steps:

🌿go outside and collect all your acorns, twigs, and leaves and place them in the pouch.

🌿back at home, set an altar and scatter some sea salt to purify your space, then place the three green candles in the center and light them.

🌿set the pouch in front of the candles and say:

“Spirits of nature, the magic you weave,

Bring power to this spell with acorns and leaves,

All of the creatures are healthy and free,

Bring total protection to all that we see.”

🌿let the candles burn all the way down then place the sea salt inside the pouch.

🌿on the next full moon, return to where you gathered your items and return them to nature, scattering them on the ground to ensure balance. The animals and insects will remain healthy and protected!

For those of you who don’t know me, I suffer from a chronic illness and I spend a LOT of time bedridden. I also happen to be a witch! I don’t let being trapped in bed stop me from practicing my craft. Here are some resources I’ve compiled from my personal experiences and the help of others ❤

This Fall I went out and harvested 14 pounds of blue elderberries in the mountain and now I’m making homemade elderberry syrup and selling it.

There’s a man I know who owns a local farm and I buy sausage from him. He asked to buy my biggest jar of syrup (worth $32) and I proposed a trade for $30 worth of sausage and he provides a jar for the syrup. He agreed and I don’t know what aesthetic/lifestyle I’m living right now but it’s great.

I just love the feeling of bartering and trading hardwork + specialties instead of exchanging paper made at jobs we don’t care about.

This is honestly the kind of life I wish I could currently lead.

It’s really great! I made $170 on the first day of orders alone and I get to make healing syrup for my local community (which is something I LOVE doing and now I get to share it!)

While I do enjoy the life of odd-jobs (syrup making, farmsitting, petsitting, etc.) I’m ready to be healthy enough to do a part-time job and get consistent pay!
