I don’t see what the big deal is about the update! No other social media like. Actively accepts explicit content? Tumblr is just changing to be more appropriate like that.

There is not much clarity on what is allowed and what will be taken down, and many of the things aren’t what they should be the focusing on removing. It’s a blanket ban that affects a lot of good people.

Additionally, whenever Tumblr pulls something like this they don’t do it very well and a lot of great blogs and content that meet and follow the guidelines get taken down in the process, and it can often be used to take down blogs with content that tumblr apparently doesn’t like but is too cowardly to say so, so they use it as a cover while they have “technical difficulties”.

OKay the problem is not only poorly defined guidelines but that they seem to be indiscriminately flagging content creators work. So not only are sex workers getting screwed out of money, but they’re also fucking over content creators including those like myself who don’t make NSFW content on here. I paint rocks. Like literally rocks and plants and I make some very benign jewelry and both have been flagged already. This is happening passively as well as these are posts that have been there for awhile with no action and suddenly today they’re flagging drawings of gourds??

They’re refusing to deal with their actual issues and they’re refusing to do that well apparently. So it’s not just a worrisome situation for nsfw users but for anyone who makes stuff and depends on media for their livelihood.

Also there are plenty of places who accept NSFW content, including twitter, but for some reason large companies are focusing on penises and female presenting nipples rather than the harassment or nazi issues on their platforms.

People might also be leaving cause they’re really feeling how fucking shitty this corporate site is, that actively doesn’t care about it’s users.

This is a huge impact for sex workers! For instance I have over 50k followers on my SW tumblr blog that I’ll be loosing. I refuse to use twitter as it’s a) going to do the same thing in a few months time b) literally everyone I know is on twitter

There are other sites like pillowfort which most of us are running too but we’re still going to lose at least 75% of our followers if we’re not “big time” and pillowfort isn’t even up and running yet because this was so short notice.

If you want to get rid of child porn you don’t purge 73% of blogs. You don’t kick artists, sex workers, and people just openly exploring their sexuality(shout out to tumblr for helping me find out I was queer cause they gay porn here is LIT).
