Weird Little Habits That Are Actually Magick

the-incomplete-grimoire:

Knocking on wood
Blowing on dandelion seeds
Using a fallen eyelash to make a wish
Kissing under mistletoe
Throwing spilled salt over your left shoulder
Don’t put shoes on the table/bed
Don’t open an umbrella indoors
Finding four leaf clovers for luck
Carving jack-o-lanterns
Wearing masks/costumes on Halloween
Using flower petals to play ‘Love-me, Love-me-not’
Wishing on a falling star

That’s all I can think of at the moment, add more!

My parents are from Russia and they have a whole host of little habits and superstitions that are actually leftovers from magic traditions from the area we’re from!

Things such as having someone (a person or a spirit) come to visit you if you drop a fork and knocking it against the table to prevent it.

If you accidentally spill salt, spill some more on purpose to “close the circle” and undo the power you invoked with that first spill.

Whistling indoors brings bad luck and financial troubles & so does wearing shoes in a bedroom or shaking someone’s hand over a  threshold as that is all disrespectful toward the spirits residing in your house.

Flower boquets (and crowns) should have an odd number of blooms because even numbers are reserved for the closing of a cycle and only used at funerals.

Before going on a journey, have all members of the household sit down in silence for a while to bless the journey, even if not all of them are actually going.

Some people in Russia spit three times over their shoulder (or just mimic it) instead of knocking on wood.

Oh and if you ever find yourself sitting between two people with the same name – make a wish, because that’s considered to be the same kind of magic you get from falling stars!

heya! sorry to bother, i was wondering if there’s any masterposts of potion/drink-centered spells that aren’t things like tea and hot milk, but colder beverages? I use correspondences to give an extra kick to the juices I choose, but any more complicated creations out there? I just can’t do the hot beverages, but drinking water is so refreshing and putting an extra magical spin on it sounds delightful!

Yes, there are some included in this post:

Cute Witchy Idea

Enchant/bless pennies to manifest desires when activated with water, then pass them out to children at fountains and wishing wells.

A spell to do this:

  • Find as many pennies as you want to pass out (the shinier the better)
  • Gather dandelion fluff (or whatever the technical term is), sage, bay leaves, basil, sugar
  • Get a sachet, jar, bag, or envelope– something to hold your pennies
  • Light a candle with a color that, in your opinion, represents wishing or manifesting desires
  • Hold the pennies in your hands and think of wishes coming true.
  • Speak or think: bringer of luck and granter of wishes, grace these coins with your favor. as the gentle water touches your abundant and gracious face, let a wish be granted
  • Place the dandelion fluff in your bag along with the sage, basil, and bay leaves. Burn one bay leaf, and place the ashes in the bag. Optional: add sugar to “sweeten” the deal. Add the pennies last.
  • Hold the bag and meditate on wishes coming true
  • Once all of your pennies have been given away (or left on the edges of fountains and wells to be found), remove the dandelion seeds from your bag and let the wind carry them away/blow them away. You can do this with all contents of the bag if you wish
