Another small fun project for recycling! These are perfect for little gifts and a cute way to send your jewelry to customers… it not only give a nice shell of protection to the treasures you put inside, its cost free, customizable and keeps recycling on the mind ❤
All you need are – toilet paper rolls – decor ( i used stamps) – Tape or glue
Step one: decorate your roll. I used some of my stamps, but don’t limit yourself to just that… you can use old paper, photographs, tissue paper, paint, sharpie and whatever else you have laying around to decorate. Mod podge and some pattered paper would be fun!
Step two: Once your roll is decorated to your liking, fold down the corners on one end, making it look like little cat ears. Make sure they fold over each other so there is no open gap, and tape down ( you can also glue the end down) * side note… if you dont like the look of regular tape, they sell something called washi tape? that comes in all sorts of amazing patterns!
-Step three: When you have some side sealed and taped down, wrap and place your item/treasures inside the box ( i wrapped up some earrings) and seal the other end, again making sure they fold over one another so there are no gaps.
– Step four… your done!
Again these are wonderful for gift giving and product packaging. Small, sturdy, cheap, recycled pill boxes…. you can use old paper towel rolls too! those are larger and can fit a bit more than TP rolls.
Holy crap I wanna do this.
This is actually great if you have a jar spell that gets buried! It’ll decompose rather than glass that will just take up space and turn into trash overtime. 🙂
this spell combines the paper chain (counting down to christmas as a child, anyone?) with magick to maintain a healthy and loving long-distance friendship or relationship until you meet again 💞
materials:
pink paper (partnerships, romance, new beginnings, compassion)
pen
scissors
tape or stapler
white candle (cycles of life and change, transformation, connection to self)
rose petals (lasting relationships, divine love)
apple seeds (healing, luck, sexuality)
rose quartz
clear quartz
method:
cut strips out of the paper and on each strip, write the number of days (in descending order) until you see your loved one. as you cut, meditate on the pain and release of breaking up the present form to build something stronger and more beautiful.
use the tape/stapler to link the strips into one another. the final strip (1 day left) should be at the end. the act of connecting the chain links acts as a binding you to your loved one, but only day by day – never longer than desired.
lay the completed chain in a circle on the ground. in the middle of the circle, place the candle and crystals and sprinkle the rose petals and apple seeds. as you place the items in the circle and light the candle, recite the words: In this paper chain, I hold the endless cycles of death and rebirth. Mother Moon, please fill the space between my loved one and I with compassion, honesty, understanding, and tenderness. Assist us through this difficult parting and allow us to grow as a unit and as individual parts during this time. I ask for the understanding that everything is ever changing and that this pain is temporary. As I break each link from the chain, let me be filled with the hope of the new day and allow me to nurture myself and my partner.
charge the chain link under the moon and then hang the enchanted chain from somewhere visible in your home! remove one chain link every day until you see your loved one again.
need cheap spell jars? use baby food jars! i got them for 50 cents each at big lots. just empty them (or wait until your baby eats it all), clean them, peel the labels off, and paint the lids!
I received an anon the other day asking me if I had any tips for bedroom decorations for broke witches. These are inexpensive things that I look for to decorate with in pretty much any room of my house, but definitely my bedroom!
Baskets
I love buying baskets. They have a warm earthy look to them that makes any room feel more cozy and homey. I rarely (if ever) have purchased a basket full price at a store. The thrift stores in my area always seem to have them and every time I’ve gone to a yard sale I’ve seen them. I don’t think I have ever paid more than $2. Usually they run under a $1.
Here are a few ways that I use them:
electrical cords: I have a basket designated for my iphone and ipad chargers, my amazon kindle charger, headphones. pretty much anything that involved electrical cords so that I know where to find them when I need them
stacking: personally I like the stacked look. it brings height (if that’s what you are looking for) and fills a space while still being aesthetically pleasing
use them!: also they’re useful?! I grabbed one of mine sitting on a shelf the other day and went out to my front porch to collect blooms from my hanging flowers
Candlestick holders
There’s something about a candelabra or single candlestick holder that can really raise a witchy atmosphere. I recently saw a cute taper candle holder at Yankee Candle Co and it was $40 and I was just omg NO. The ones shown above are gorgeous and suit my needs just fine. All were purchased at yard sales. I often don’t even have candles in them, but just sitting on a book shelf or side table with a few other items creates such a good vibe. And these are easily attainable for broke witches! Check thrift stores, yard sales, or even the dollar store. Watch for sales at craft stores if you see one you really want, most stores have a 40%-60% off coupon weekly that you could use to get them for less.
The thing about candelabras is that they really suit any decorating style because they come in all different tones of metal or glass or ceramic. So just keep your eyes peeled for ones that suit your style!
Candles and Books
These have always been great things to use for decoration. Go to thrift stores and if you happen upon a yard sale look for these two things. I can tell you right now, books are one of the hardest things to sell at a yard sale so they are usually very cheap. Same with used candles. Say they burnt a candle once for 20 mins and then it sat on their mantle for two years, they just want to get rid of it now. I recently got six slightly used various sized pillar candles for a quarter each!! Screw spending upwards of $6.99 at the store!
For books, you can certainly look for old style ones with the hardcover that is cloth, they are usually a solid color and look really nice stacked on a table with a candelabra beside them. You might pay a bit more for them, but they should still be rather cheap. But if you can’t find that here are some things I would look for with modern books:
ideally books on the occult or witchcraft
nature or animal reference books
front cover/spine color: if you can envision the color scheme you want in your room, try to find 5-6 books where if you were to stack them, the spine colors would work well together
Sticks
This is a found item that is great for decorating. I have a large clear vase with branches sitting in it. I used wine corks and pine cones to fill in around the base of it. The “flowers” are fake ones from a craft store and I just glued on to spots on the sticks. I think it would look good even without those. But this is very versatile! Because if you are a glamorous witch or maybe a more gothic witch, you can change this up in whatever way suits your style!
Here are some other stick ideas that I have not done yet but I am very interested in! Here’s a stick pentagram on a bedroom wall. This looks like branches fastened to a wall that you can hang necklaces from. And there are two versions of a hanging stick pentagram where you can hang herbs or dried flowers from:one and two.
Framed chicken wire
Lastly, I just wanted to sharethis postagain because it is also an awesome bedroom decoration. It can be used for hanging pictures, or spells (it could be a visual, decorative grimoire) or I recently started using it to dry herbs! It looks very nice and is so useful!
My sister made this by purchasing an old large picture from a thrift store (maybe $3-$5?) She pulled everything off of it and just kept the outer frame. She then spray painted it teal (there are chips in spots now where you can see the gold frame that was underneath but I like that look!) She bought chicken wire (very cheap!) and stapled it to the back. I looked at it and cannot tell if she used a staple gun or not. If a frame is thin enough (the one in the link is fairly thin) you should be able to use a regular stapler. BUT!! if it won’t work, using a staple gun is easy! I recently purchased the cheapest staple gun I could find at a hardware store, I think it was like $8.99. I am by no means a tough person, I am petite but I have used it for a couple projects by myself and it is very manageable! So please don’t let the idea of a stable gun scare you away. In fact I fixed one of my bird feeders with it and I can tell you, the more I’ve used it the more empowered I feel because I am not relying on my husband to fix things for me!
Important Note
I just wanted to tell everyone, that I am not the type of person that haunts these places. I do not constantly go to thrift stores and yard sales. I know there are some people who check them out all the time, but that is not me, and yet I have found so many wonderful things! So I just wanted to reassure you that I’m not telling you that you need to go crazy and spend all your time looking for deals. However, please keep them in mind as a resource. I have found many inexpensive decorations in my life and I don’t go to thrift stores/yard sales every weekend. So you can find these deals too as long as you try to make it to these places every once in awhile. I hope this helped!
That title’s a mouthful, but basically, it’s a glittery body spray that I DIYed for about 3 dollars (I still have plenty of supplies left, so it’s actually not even 3 dollars). I used products from the dollar store, but if you have similar and safe items around the house, use those! Just remember to patch test, and experiment with the ingredient ratios until your happy with the product!
I made this after seeing an argan oil bottle with glitter inside being sold in Walmart (I think the brand is physician’s formula) for $13. I fell in love with it, but I have very little money (and oil with glitter shouldn’t cost 13 USD), so I decided to head to the dollar store. I looked for argan oil, or maybe jojoba oil, but I couldn’t find any. However, they did have baby oil! So I picked a bottle of that up, two loose glitter eyeshadows (LA Colors is the brand. The shade is “Sunshine”), and a three pack of travel containers. I just wanted the spray bottle, but I couldn’t find a three pack or any sort of singular bottle of that kind, so I went with that. I didn’t end up needing to use the second loose eyeshadow, so if you don’t want a large quantity, or don’t want to buy what you don’t need, one works fine! Here’s a rundown of my supplies list (per 1 bottle of ichor highlight):
(I made it an image because I saved this as a draft on a different sideblog and didn’t want to type it out again)
Here’s how I made mine!
First, I followed a quick tutorial for depotting the loose eyeshadow. Make sure you have the towel underneath, or a piece of paper. This will catch any glitter that may pop out in the process. The tutorial I used was: https://youtu.be/SJaZfHXyD10 . If you’re on mobile like I am, it is the first search result for “depotting la colors loose eyeshadow”. This is where the hammer comes in, but you’ll only be using it for a minute or two. The noise freaked me out, since I am sensitive to sounds, but it was over pretty quickly. Just be very careful!!!
Next, I filled my spritzing bottle about 1/3 of the way up with baby oil. Then, I made my paper funnel by twisting it into a cone and letting it relax inside the bottle, a few millimeters away from the surface of the oil. I dumped as much of the eyeshadow into it as I could, which was actually a whole lot, considering it was only advertised as .1 oz, and I haven’t really used it in forever so I didn’t remember how much was in one container.
I filled the remaining space in the bottle (stopping at a few millimeters from the neck) with baby oil, and replaced the top. I screwed it on tight, and shook! Here is the result:
The end product reminds me of Rihanna’s Fenty beauty highlighter, trophy wife, but in liquid form!!!! Let me know if you try it, and feel free to post pics and link back to this post/tag me!
I am trying to post a gif of it on my skin, but Tumblr is acting up and refuses to accept the format of my video. I will try again later. It leaves a nice sheen of golden, dewy highlight, but it isn’t blinding if you blend it out. Very subtle, yet glowing!!! I am enchanting mine to capture the essence of summer, joy, brightness, etc. I really want to attract that energy into my life, and people who exude it!
If you have leftover wax bits from old candles, save them, especially if they’re of various colors! If you later burn a white candle, you can throw in some blue wax or green wax for a little color boost!
If you don’t have green, mix yellow & blue! To make a light purple, mix red (or pink) & blue. Keep in mind that the colors will get a lot lighter. So red wax for example will turn into pink; orange wax may look more yellow.
