As a spoonie witch, using magic to help regain my mental and physical energy has been extremely helpful. I decided to compile some resources to make life easier!
For those of you who don’t know me, I suffer from a chronic illness and I spend a LOT of time bedridden. I also happen to be a witch! I don’t let being trapped in bed stop me from practicing my craft. Here are some resources I’ve compiled from my personal experiences and the help of others ❤
It can be easy to feel super overwhelmed when you’re first starting off. This post is for very new witches who have limited knowledge and would like a broad overview! These are my opinions, feel free to disagree but be polite about it.
Types of witches:
As witchcraft grows more popular on the internet, it’s become helpful to categorize what your practice looks. This helps to share it more easily and find others who have similar practices.
That being said, it isn’t necessary to categorize yourself! If you were to pick a type (or few), here’s some things you’d look at:
What your lifestyle is like. Does where you live affect your practice? (city, country, beach, etc.). Does what you do affect your practice? (work, hobbies, etc.).
What you draw power from. Being outside? Baking in the kitchen? Making your house a home? Exploring the city? Being at the ocean? Etc. Etc.
What you like to do in your craft. What things call to you?
Outside influences. For example, I have a chronic illness so I call myself a spoonie witch.
If you feel like you’re a lot of different things, you can call yourself an eclectic witch (as in, a mix of types) or simply be a witch!
Gender:
Gender and body type does not affect your ability to be a witch. Anyone can be a witch. It literally doesn’t matter. You want to be a witch? Congrats you can be a witch! Don’t fall for the gatekeeping shit.
Gods, Goddesses, Deities:
There is a common belief that you must incorporate divine beings into your practice. While that is certainly okay to do, it is not required in witchcraft. Nor is it required to believe in them. Religion is not an inherent part of witchcraft!
Many witches are also polytheists. For some, these mix and become a hybrid of witchcraft and worship. For others (like myself), the two stay relatively separate.
Some witches have patron deities/have devoted themselves to a deity. While this can be a very powerful connection, I encourage witches to explore their craft secularly first and build their connections over time. There’s absolutely no rush!
Some witches call upon the powers of the gods to boost their magic. Do so with respect, gods are not spell ingredients.
There is far more to be said on this topic, but this is the overview!
This series is a collection of my personal (UPG) correspondences for local plants. Please do not utilize this post as a sole way to identify them, and do not ingest unless you have done the proper research.
Meet Claytonia sibirica, also known as Siberian Miner’s Lettuce, Pink Purslane, or Candy Flower. This small beauty loves to grow along the sides of trails and along openings in the forest. I think the luscious, alternate leaves and delicate flowers brighten up the forest floor. I once lived off of this plant for a week during a survival trip!
I haven’t interacted with these plant spirits much, other than to thank them.
Meet Claytonia perfoliata, also known as Perfoliate Miner’s Lettuce, Spring Beauty or Winter Purslane. This small beauty also loves to grow along the sides of trails and in sandy/rocky areas. The leaves are simply magical, and it has teeny white flowers.
I have never interacted with these spirits, I actually rarely see this form of the plant.
Stem. Young, brief life and growth.
Leaves. Strengthen magic, confidence in power, connection to spirits.
Especially helpful for discreet and low energy witches!
I really like using sigils to boost my drinks, especially when I make infusions! I typically use a glass or glass jar, and a dry-erase pen, that way I can wipe off the sigil when I’m done!
For everyone with mental and physical stuff that they have to take medication for! I’m both mentally and chronically ill and take a LOT of meds each day. There’s so much negativity about magic and meds, so let’s find a way to incorporate both into your life! ❤
Pill bottles:
Charge the bottles (while empty), the bowl you place your dose in, or your pill organizer in the sun or moon
Decorate them to look more witchy! Don’t cover up important labels. [X]
Draw sigils on the bottom to help minimize side effects and so you don’t forget a dose!
Use empty bottles for anything witchy (spell bottles, herb storage, etc.) [X]
Place crystals or herbs around/on the bottle
Use color correspondences – doodle on the lid or bottom
Meds:
Keep in cool pill boxes
Whisper an enchantment or blessing over them for desired effects (easy to swallow, less side effects, doing their job, etc.)
Think or say an affirmation with each one (I say so many affirmations a day!)
Take with (drinking safe) moon water or infused water.
Also use a cool cup, could be decorated, covered in sigils, using color correspondences, and more!
Coat your pills with honey before taking them to sweeten up your life
IV treatments and injections (no needle mentions):
Listen to witchy music
Draw healing/soothing sigils
Keep crystals in your pocket or bag
Bring infused water with you (if using herbs, check for interactions)
Bring a spell bottle/sachet to your treatment for good vibes, quick healing, minimal pain, and the like.
